About Ilios

Ilios Dynamics, a subsidiary of Tecogen Inc., was formed in April 2009 to develop and distribute a line of ultra high-efficiency heating products for commercial and industrial applications utilizing advanced thermodynamic principles. Products incorporate mechanical work to extract heat from the environment to supplement chemical energy available from natural gas. The result is a significant boost in efficiency and reduced carbon emissions relative to conventional heating systems.

Our Team

Ilios expert team members have years of experience in the development and application of CHP products at Tecogen, the industry leader in natural gas engine driven chillers and cogeneration modules. Focusing on innovation and progressive thinking, we work hard to give customers standardized, modular, small-scale solutions that precisely fit their needs. Through careful development, informed by real-world experience, Ilios offers its first high efficiency water heater. Manufacturing and sales infrastructure is currently shared with Tecogen Inc. Paramount to our success has been the thorough training of field service personnel and installation contractors, and providing solid technical assistance to specifying engineers. Ilios is dedicated to providing customers with an outstanding unique product, built in an environment of innovation, and supported by the best customer care possible.

Martin J. McDonough, President and Chief Operations Officer, joined Ilios in June 2011. Before joining Ilios, Mr. McDonough was President of Wall Decaux, Inc. (now JCDecaux Boston Inc.) where he implemented the nation’s first Coordinated Street Furniture Program. JCDecaux is a fully integrated outdoor advertising company that installs and maintains street furniture elements such as automatic public toilets, bus stop shelters, and city information panels at no cost to taxpayers in return for advertising rights. Previously, Mr. McDonough had a thirteen year career in the plastics packaging industry with FLEXcon Company Inc. in Spencer, Massachusetts including assignments in Amsterdam, Holland and Edinburgh, Scotland. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. McDonough was Chief Operation Officer of FLEXcon Europe, responsible for manufacturing, technical, business and administrative groups throughout Europe. Mr. McDonough earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and attended Northeastern University High Technology MBA Program earning his Master of Business Administration degree.

Bonnie Brown, Chief Financial Officer, joined Tecogen in 2005 as the company’s Controller and has served as CFO since 2007. Prior to joining Tecogen, Ms. Brown was a partner at Sullivan, Bille PC, a regional CPA firm, for 15 years. She provided financial, accounting, audit, tax, and business consulting services for several mid-sized companies in the manufacturing, service, and retail industries. Joseph Gehret, Chief Technology Officer, is responsible for managing ongoing technology development for the company. Leveraging 24 years of engineering experience, Mr. Gehret has been instrumental in numerous Tecogen projects, including engineering the mechanical systems of Tecogen’s first chiller and being largely responsible for making it a viable product. He also has extensive controls engineering experience. Over the years, as the need for an integrated control system became more apparent, Mr. Gehret designed and developed the necessary hardware, as well as the software code, for Tecogen’s entire product line, including CHP modules and chillers. He developed the controls for Tecogen’s engine and emission system and was responsible for creating Tecogen’s first major program, WinRMCS, which allows Tecogen to communicate with each piece of equipment in the field via modem. Mr. Gehret has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering, also from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jean Roy, Senior Program Manager, serves as the primary Program Manager. As the principal-in-charge, she is responsible for all aspects of product development, design, testing, and manufacturing. For over 20 years, Ms. Roy has been at the forefront of every major Tecogen project, including the development of the InVerde, a new 100-kW inverter-based CHP module and the Ilios high efficiency water heater. She has also led the subcontract for Tecogen’s participation in the Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions (CERTS) Microgrid development program. Currently Ms. Roy oversees sponsored programs by the CEC (California Energy Commission) for achieving CARB emission compliance and developing an advanced cycle engine for CHP; as well as our own internal product development of the ultra high efficiency heating module. She has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University.
